Lemosho is the most scenic route on Mount Kilimanjaro. The vegetation is lush and amazing. This 7-day hiking program will take you to Uhuru Peak, the highest mountain in Africa.
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
You will be picked up from the airport and taken to your accommodation in Moshi. We will check for all the necessary equipment before the hike. You can embark on optional activities, including a coffee tour.
Day 2: Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp
After breakfast, we leave Moshi for Londorossi Gate. Your mountain guide will help you with the paperwork. Afterward, we hike through the montane forest for 3 to 4 hours. After we arrive at Forest Camp, you eat a hot dinner, bath, and sleep.
Day 3: Forest Camp – Shira Camp 1
Today, we will proceed through the rainforest, and then enter the moorland zone. We will hike up hills and streams and reach the Shira Ridge. Afterward, we will hike down to Shira Camp 1. At this point, the Kibo Plateau is visible and amazingly attractive.
Day 4: Shira Camp – Moir Hut
After breakfast, we spend a full day hiking on the Shira Plateau. We hike gently eastward towards the Kibo’s glaciated peak. We then rest at Shira Camp 2 and proceed to Moir Hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Shira Camp – Barranco Camp
After breakfast, we hike eastwards and pass the junction to the peak of Kibo. We then hike southeastwards and pass the Lava Tower (Shark Tooth). We then cross the Arrow Glacier (16,000ft) and reach the Barranco Hut (13,000ft). We will rest, dine, and sleep overnight. This day is meant for acclimatization since there is no significant variation in elevation.
Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp, then to Barafu Camp
After an early meal, we hike through a steep ridge, pass the Barranco Wall, and reach the Karanga Valley. We then leave Karanga and pass the junction that joins the Mweka Trail. At this point, we have completed the Southern Circuit. We will then camp at Barafu Camp, rest, have an early dinner, and sleep early in preparation for the summit attempt.
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Summit, then to Mweka Hut
This is the final ascent to the summit. Preparations will start at 23:30. After a hot breakfast, we will begin hiking. Hiking slowly is the key. We will also take frequent rests to catch our breath. We will hike past the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers and ascend northwest toward Stella Point.
After witnessing the sunrise at the summit, we begin the descent. We will follow the Mweka Trail, and rest at Barafu Camp for lunch. We then continue to Mweka Hut to celebrate our victory with a much-needed dinner and well-deserved sleep.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Today, we finish the remaining part of the descent. We hike through the rainforest to the Mweka Gate where you will collect certificates.
