Gombe and Mahale lie in the far west of Tanzania. They are situated on the eastern shores of Lake Tanganyika. They host the last remaining endangered chimpanzees. This tour starts in Arusha and ends in Dar es Salaam. On this 7-day tour, you will come across the e primates in Gombe and Mahale.

Day 1: Arusha to Gombe National Park

Pick up and transfer to the airport. Board for your flight to Kigoma. Meet your guide upon arrival and transfer to Kibirizi port for your boat trip to Gombe. The ride will take 2 hours. At the park entrance gate, you will register and eat a hot lunch. Afterward, you will enter the wilderness to search for the chimpanzees. Enjoy dinner and overnight at the tented camp.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking in Gombe

Today, you will have an early breakfast and start the chimpanzee trekking. You will walk through dense rainforest, and hike up hills and into valleys. Once, we find the chimpanzee territory, you will spend an hour observing these gentle primates. You will watch them as they feed, interact, and do their daily routines.

You will walk to different parts, including waterfalls, Jane’s Peak, and others. Since walking with food is not allowed in this park, you will return to the camp for a hot lunch. Spend the rest of the day on Lake Tanganyika’s gorgeous beach.

Day 3: Gombe to Kigoma

Today, we start the day with a morning trek. We hike through different valleys and forests and visit the Kakombe Waterfall. After lunch, you will transfer to Kigoma town. You will enjoy dinner and overnight in Kigoma.

Day 4: Kigoma to Mahale Mountains National Park

After breakfast at the lodge, you will be transferred to Mahale. Enjoy dinner at the time you arrive. You can relax at the beach. The Mahale Mountains characterize the landscapes of this park. It lies 128 km south of Kigoma. Enjoy dinner and overnight at your accommodation.

Day 5: Mahale Chimpanzee Trekking

Today, you will trek to the chimpanzee once more. The trails are difficult since these primates are distributed on the slopes of the Mahale Mountains. A good fitness level is highly recommended for a successful chimpanzee trek. Watch these primates for an hour. Spend the remaining hours at the beach. You will then return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Mahale Mountains to Kigoma

Wake up and enjoy a buffet breakfast. You will then walk to the chimpanzee territory to see them for the second time. Watch these primates engage in their daily routines for an hour. After lunch, you will transfer to Kigoma town for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Kigoma to Arusha

On this day, you will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight to Arusha or Dar es Salaam.
